Veggie Buntch Vegan Supper Club at Bombay Brasserie

The night begins at Bombay Brasserie.

Our latest Veggie Buntch Supper Club took place at the elegant Bombay Brasserie restaurant at the Taj hotel in Cape Town. While many restaurants in Cape Town have only a meagre selection of vegetarian options, Bombay Brasserie has an extensive and very tasty vegetarian menu specialising in contemporary Indian fine dining.

For our Supper Club, the menu was entirely vegan. As always I was amazed by the creaminess that is achievable without the use of dairy. The night showcased a variety of their top vegetarian menu items. My personal favourites included the sublime sauteed spinach – which Bombay Brasserie restaurant manager Hilton Ruch, was correct in calling the best spinach you’ll ever try – as well as the fragrant and spicy Dal Tadkewali ( tempered yellow lentils). I have eaten Indian food on many occasions and was impressed by the variety of complex flavours which, although very spicy, were never too hot.

The vegan wines served on the night were the thoroughly delicious Waterkloof Circle of Life white and red blends introduced by assistant winemaker Jacques van der Vyver. Not only are the Waterkloof wines vegan, but they also practice biodynamic and organic farming on the estate.

Once again it was a wonderful dining experience thanks to the service, quailty of food and great company.

The last Veggie Buntch Supper Club of the year is going to be on 28th November at the Westin Executive. The menu looks phenomenal – and details will be released soon! Book early to avoid missing out. Email me on editor@veggie.buntch.net to secure your spot.

Amuse bouche kicks off the night.

Starter: Vegetable and roasted pine nut kebab with tandoori pickle broccoli. This was one of the most interesting treatments of broccoli that I have encountered
