E’Mondo: Good Food Eatery: Some vegetarian options 10/22/11
Laura Cooke discovers an awesome lunch spot in the Cape Town CBD.
There’s nothing better than finding a new little restaurant that serves frikkin tasty (and large) meals at good prices. One such place is e’Mondo Good Food Eatery which recently opened at 42 Hans Strijdom (next door to Col Cacchio) in Cape Town.
Like many of the delis that have sprung up all over the CBD, there is a focus on simple, fresh and quality ingredients. And as seems to be trend at the moment, the decor is rustic yet slick. E’Mondo is a very pleasant spot to pop out to for lunch. They also have a nice selection of grab-and-go sandwiches.
While their vegetarian options are limited, they are accommodating to requests and have soy milk available for all their hot drinks.
The first time I visited e’Mondo I had the fusilli salad with sundried tomato pesto, basil and shaved pecorino. (Obviously you can order it without the cheese too.) The next time, I had it again. While it isn’t the most original combination ever, they managed to make it work extremely well. If I could buy buckets of their pesto, I probably would. The fact that it also came with some toasted rye bread on the side made it even better.
I also think their prices are reasonable. All mains seem to be under R50 and their sandwiches range from R22-R40.
They were also very understanding when, to the extreme amusement of my colleagues, I started walking down the street still holding my glass of water from the restaurant. I promise I wasn’t trying to steal it.
