The Ethical Co-op was one of the first online organic food stores in South Africa.

Started in 2005 by a group of individuals who got tired of having to venture outside of the Peninsula in order to source organic veggies, one of the earliest organic online stores in the Western Cape is the Ethical Co-op. This proactive group began sourcing organic goods for themselves and since then, have built up a nationwide delivery system.

You simply order online once a week and your veggie box will be delivered to you or a nearby collection point.

As they say on their site, “We offer fresh organic fruit, vegetables and dairy in Cape Town, and, countrywide, a wide range of products that meet our high standards, such as herbs and spices, body products, seeds and paints. Products that we use every day on ourselves and our children because we can’t find anything better for us, and the broader community. Our range is growing all the time, and if you know of a product that you think beats what we have on offer (healthier, produced more sustainably, and produced closer to home), please let us know about it.”

Definitely worth taking a look at. Check out their website for more.

What I love most about the Ethical Co-op’s produce is that, while you can tell that the veggies have been plucked straight from nature, they’re already washed when they’re delivered. This means no soil all over your kitchen surfaces, and less prep time.
