South Africa is still quite behind when it comes to all things eco and green. While other countries have robust recycling programmes, it seems that we often lag behind in many fields. We are often unconscious consumers and don’t make the effort to make deliberate shopping choices that may be inconvenient, but are better for you and the planet.

That said, one locally based online store has set themselves up as one of the leading online stores for natural and organic products. They describe what they’re all about as follows:

“Belief in the power of nature, Integrity, Beauty, Sharing knowledge, Sustainability, Responsibility,
And respect for all living things…

Take a look at what they have on offer: http://www.faithful-to-nature.co.za

It seems that on an individual level, some South Africans try to do their bit for the environment, like recycling, buying fruit and veg directly from small suppliers, etc. I don’t think this is enough to make a large impact. If corporates take the initiative in green matters, groups can make a bigger impact in saving our planet, such as training staff or placing recycling bins in offices. The company I work for recently introduced recycling bins at the premises and although a small step, I certainly feel that it can make an impact if implemented correctly and followed by all staff.
