Every Saturday morning, something delicious is brewing under the oaks in Stellenbosch. The Stellenbosch Fresh Goods Market brings together tasty food, good food and wine, live music and a chance to take some time out and enjoy the good things in life in true Slow Food style.

The Slow Food movement is something worth paying attention to. The Slow Food movement believes that “everyone has a fundamental right to the pleasure of good food and consequently the responsibility to protect the heritage of food, tradition and culture that make this pleasure possible.”

With Slow Food, what you eat should be tasty, locally produced and is made in a way that doesn’t harm the environment. In addition, food production should be fair – both for those buying goods and small-scale producers.

At the Stellenbosch Fresh Goods Market you can sample fabulous snacks, baked goods, wine, pizzas loads of tasty goodies and unique crafts and handiwork, all produced by local artisans and farmers.

You can buy seasonal veggies from local farms or enjoy a refreshing Darling Brew beer. True to the Slow Food way of life, Darling Brew has no preservatives, is completely natural and is slowly brewed over a four and a half week period. It is well worth buying a few bottles at the market, as at the moment, while they do stock bars and restaurants along the West Coast, you usually have to head out to Darling to get yourself one – and their beer shouldn’t be missed.

Also look out for the Tofu Vegan stand where you can pick up recipes and tips and learn more about tofu than you ever thought possible.

The market is open every Saturday from 9am- 2 pm and is located at the Oude Libertas Theatre.
