Veggie Vengeance 03/23/11
While we all know it's extremely annoying getting the wrong meal, this passenger went a little too far.
If this hasn’t happened to you yet, odds are it will. You’re on a long-haul flight and it’s suppertime. You can’t help being a little excited about your soon-to-arrive plastic tray – even if it is just for the distraction from the 10 movies in a row you’ve just watched. While I’ll admit that airline food is generally nothing to write home about, it has gotten substantially better over the years.
But, there are times when you know things have gone wrong. Instead of receiving your special veg meal (before everyone else, yay!), somehow you’ve been lumped in with the rest of the passengers and there is simply no veg meal on the flight. This has happened to me more than once, and I can’t tell you how annoying it is to make do with a bread roll and some horrible sweet jam when you’re going to be stuck on a flight for 10 hours… it does not put you in a good mood.
One passenger obviously reached the end of her tether recently when she threw her plate of non-vegetarian food in the flight attendant’s face on a Continental Airlines flight.
“She said she was a vegetarian and she didn’t like what she was being served,” said an airline official quoted on the NY Post. “So she threw the food tray – and the food – at the attendant.”
The flight attendant decided not to press charges.
While this was obviously not the best response to the situation, I can understand how frustrating it can be to be served the wrong food – especially when there are no alternatives.
Have any of you had similar experiences? How do you usually deal with being served the wrong food?
